Hi, I am Karen, I’m a Grief Specialist,

When my eldest sister died and seven months later my mother died,  I couldn’t find any help with my grief at the time; books didn’t help, my doctor could only offer depression medication (which I declined), I was going from feeling numb to drowning in a rollercoaster of huge emotions, until I came across the Grief Recovery Method, a practical 7-Step programme to heal grief. I was sceptical but in 7-Sessions, with the Grief Specialist; the weight of the grief had lifted; I could remember my mum and sister with a smile instead of sadness, and I felt like myself again.

I was so impressed with the Grief Recovery Method process that I trained with them to become a Grief Speciaslist.

Then a few years later I lost my other sister.  Then I lost my dad (who had been living with my husband and I for three years after he’d had a stroke) and just one year later I lost my husband (married 26 years) but this time I knew how to cope and heal from grief.  I asked a peer Grief Recovery Method Specialist to take me through the 7-Step process for my sister, then my dad and finally for for my husband, and again I was amazed how the Grief Recovery Method’s 7-Steps healed my grief, and that I was able to rebuild my life, after five major losses.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing the practical tools that can help you heal your loss. Your path to recovery starts here.

You don’t need fixing. You just need to take the correct steps.

We are all taught to gain things in life – an education, a partner, a home but we are not taught to recover from loss. With the Grief Recovery Method 7-Step programme you will learn the practical proven tasks that help us heal from loss.

After the 7-steps you will:

  • have removed the blocks to healing from grief
  • feel lighter
  • sleep better
  • regain your apetite (if you have lost it)
  • feel like yourself
  • engage in life again
  • have the tools to deal with other emotional losses, not just bereavement

The Grief Recovery Method

The Grief Recovery Method is the ONLY programme proven to work at healing loss by putting itself forward to be tested by the Psychology department of Kent State University; whose extensive testing confirmed that it works.

The Grief Recovery Method was established by John James over 30 years ago in the USA, after he lost his child, and has helped thousands of people with healing from loss.

The Grief Recovery Method is an action programme for moving beyond loss.  In being an action plan it differs from counselling, which reflects on what happened, whereas the Grief Recovery Method is an educational class that focuses on recovery by giving a step by step action plan to use to move forward and get completion on our loss.

What is Involved?

The Grief Recovery Programme is run in one-hour Zoom calls with me, Karen, Grief Specialist, and it covers:

  • Module 1 – Defining what grief is and understanding the myths about grief and how they block our healing
  • Module 2 – Understanding other blocks to grieving
  • Module 3 – Identifying our own patterns of loss and how they’ve helped or hindered us
  • Module 4 – Understanding the correct steps to take to heal loss
  • Modules 5  to 7 – Working through the correct steps to heal loss

Price

The price of the seven session Grief Recovery Method programme (via Zoom calls) is £245 (with an option to pay in instalments)

I cannot recommend Karen and The Grief Recovery Method highly enough.  It has literally given me freedom and myself back!  I recently went through a relationship breakup – it was sudden and unexpected.  I went from anticipating moving in together and at last sharing life with a loving man to facing being alone again. I was distraught.

Previously when I’ve gone through breakups I have had to give myself months if not years to recover.  In that time I would lean heavily on friends and be extremely low.  I really didn’t want to go through that again.  Karen gently but clearly took me into the heart of my grief in a constructive and open way.  I truly said goodbye and let the pain out.  Miraculously after working with her, something in me cleared.  The first thing I noticed was a feeling of energy.  Then hunger – I had struggled to eat much since the break up.  And I’ve been clear ever since. I can now look back on the relationship, acknowledge what it gave me and the good parts and see what was wrong and would never have worked. I am even grateful that it ended!
I’m even more grateful to Karen and this method for freeing me to be fully engaged in life again.

I was talking with a dear friend about grief.  My friend was telling me about Karen’s grief recovery method (PLEASE NOTE: the Grief Recovery Method is an established method, created by John W. James over 30 years ago and Karen is trained and certified to practice by this organisation) and what a life changer it was for her.  During our conversation, I admitted that I didn’t’ feel I deal well with grief.
Guided by Karen, I dealt, not only, with recent grief but also grief from many years ago, some of which I didn’t even think of as grief.  Karen’s method takes you on a journey that enables you to deal with grief gently and powerfully.  It most definitely worked for me.  I would most definitely recommend working with Karen.  Grief of all kinds can hit you where it most hurts and finding a way through it can be overwhelming sometimes.  Having a way to work through it is invaluable.

A friend recommended Karen when I mentioned that I was struggling with a relationship where the other person wouldn’t discuss issues that had come between us.  I was very sad about the change in the relationship and had no idea how to let go of the hurt and find a way forward.  Karen was able to help me with this in such a significant way, using a process called the Grief Recovery Method which is a remarkable technique and means that I no longer carry any hurt or ill feeling.
I had four 1 hour long sessions with Karen and through these sessions, Karen first explained what grief and loss are and she then helped me to work through the loss that I had been carrying for years.  I now understand that as well as grief being the feeling when a loved one dies, feelings of loss and grief can be experienced in situations where reality falls short of expectations or in situations where communication breaks down and one can’t have the conversation one would like to have.
Karen is very empathetic, kind and caring and so I found it easy to be open about what I was feeling.  This ability to make me feel at ease and her gift of being able to hear when I was speaking authentically makes her an exceptional Grief  Recovery Specialist.  I am incredibly grateful to have met her and to now also have the tools to be able to work through any feelings of loss or grief I might experience in the future.

Karen took me through the process of the Grief Recovery Method in stages, using her own personal experience to build up trust, making it easy for me to share my grief with her.  Having completed the process with Karen on three losses I feel like I have not only been released from the weight of some significant baggage, but also that I have some new life skills to go forward more lightly.

I contacted Karen a few months after the suicide of my husband as I was going through all sorts of emotions. from the very first session I felt a bit better knowing that whatever I was going through was normal.

Karen made me feel at ease and comfortable and I enjoyed my sessions. I ended up having the tools to continue with my life in the best way possible.

FAQs
Q: I feel guilty if I am not grieving for my loved one
A: You can keep their memory close and them beside you. After completeing the Grief Recovery Method sessions you will be able to remember them more clearly, without the pain.  I still speak to my husband’s photograph; they can always be in your life, if you wish.
Q: Can I start the session if I have recently had a loss?
A: Yes, the Grief Recovery Method is for anyone at any stage of grief.  It will help you cope in the early days, and will give you the steps to take to heal when you are ready. If you don’t feel ready to speak with me, the Coping with Grief in the first Six Months course is desigged for you; a mini course sharing how to cope in the early stages of loss.
Q: How much time does it take?
A: Each session takes one hour and there are seven sessions in the programme, so it usually lasts seven weeks, but it can be completed sooner, if you have time for the weekly task between each session.
Q: Will it work for me?
A: It has worked for my clients, and for me and my five losses,  so, in my experience, and in the 30 years experience of the Grief Recovery Method company, it should work for you. If the writing and sharing exercises don’t work for you, I can share exercises from other modalities that also heal loss.
Q: What results can I expect?
A: The emotional weight of unexpressed communication, unexpressed emotion, unanswered questions, and unfulfilled plans will be lifted with no emotional attachment to them, making you feel lighter and clearer. You will feel more like yourself again, and begin to be able to look forward.
Q: Can I Cancel?
A: If the programme isn’t right for you by the second meeting you can cancel and get a refund. After that we will be in the process of healing and I would encourage you to complete your healing journey.
Q: Does the Grief Recovery Method work for other losses?
A: Yes, the Grief Recovery Method programme works for any change in your life that brings about an emotional loss; from bereavement of loved ones and pets, to divorce, relationship breakup, empty nest syndrome, job loss, loss of health, to more intangible losses such as loss of confidence, loss of trust and more.
