Varicose Veins are veins that are bulging or bluish and can cause aches and pains. This is the result of malfunctioning valves inside the veins. Varicose veins can occur when sitting or standard in one position for prolonged periods of time e.g. sitting with your legs crossed. Constipation, heart failure, liver disease and abdominal tumours can play a role in the formation of varicose veins.

- Exercise to improve circulation, as poor circulation is a contributing factor to varicose veins. Avoid standing, sitting or crossing your legs for long periods
- Eat a diet low in fact and refined carbohydrates. Include plenty of fish, fresh fruits and vegetables
- Eat blackberries and cherries. These may help prevent varicose veins, or ease symptoms if you already have them
